This is so freakin cool – really unique, strangely relaxing and totally magical.
Imagine floating among giant fish that change colors and play ambient underwater music.
Well, if you happen to be in New York City in Battery Park, you can do it.
The SeaGlass Carousel is 30 fiberglass fish that you sit in. They are in an enclosed in a 2,575 square foot pavilion. The carousel has no traditional middle pole and allows you to do 360 degree turns while 4 turntables and a motor under the floor run the tranquil underwater adventure. LED color-changing lighting combined with “water effect” light projectors hung from a custom-designed helical light create the underwater effect that surrounds the fish. The music is by The George Tsypin Opera Factory and adds to the surreal atmosphere.
The carousel was planned to conjure The Battery’s history as the first home of the New York Aquarium. It was was one of the nation’s earliest public aquariums. It opened in 1896 and in it’s later years welcomed 2.5 million visitors annually until it closed in 1941.
